I’ve been freelance for a while now, and I love it. I love the flexibility, I love the work, I love the pride I feel for my business. And I LOVE getting to know other freelancers.
That’s why I wanted to feature a bunch of freelancers on my blog, so I can get to know them, you can get to know them, and we can all get to know each other. Like one big happy freelance family. Aww.
Lots of people already do this excellently on their websites. I’m thinking Being Freelance, Penning and Planning, ProCopywriters, The Writing Desk, and All Good Copy. They each approach this differently, and I wanted to put my own stamp on it too.
Lots of pondering ensued. And then a decision.
I’d track down Meg(an)s freelancing in different roles around the UK. Why not, eh?
So without further ado, I’m excited to introduce… The Megs!
Or more technically The Meg(an)s! But that doesn’t have the same ring to it. Today I’m sharing short snippets and edited highlights from the longer interviews featuring each of them, as a taster of what’s to come.
Over the coming weeks, you’ll find out about each wonderful Meg in more detail, as they share their thoughts on everything from the wise and the useful to the downright absurd (my fault, I did ask the questions).
Together, they’re a brilliant bunch of magnificent Megs, brimming with talent, a love for freelancing, and advice for the apocalypse. I can’t wait for you to meet them. We have… in no particular order:
- Megan Davies, recipe writer, food stylist, and food illustrator (more here)
- Meg Harrop, graphic designer and brand stylist at Lemon and Birch
- Meg Hapgood, freelance writer and content marketer at Straightforword
- Meg Bell, PA and social media manager at Clockwork PA and Social
- Megan Bowdler, surface pattern designer at Megan Bowdler Designs
With those formalities out of the way, let’s crack on. Now for the fun part… THE QUESTIONS
Let’s start off with some easy ones. Early bird or night owl?
MEG HARROP and MEGAN DAVIES: Night owl
MEG BELL and MEG HAPGOOD: Early bird
Favourite fictional Meg?

MEG HAPGOOD: 🍻 (clinking beers), according to my phone… this says a lot about me!
What did you have for breakfast this morning (I ask all the important questions)?
MEGAN DAVIES: A cup of tea! Always the first thing I have.
MEGAN BOWDLER: I had granola with strawberry and raisins with alpro milk, I’m a bit of a routine freak with my breakfast, I have this every morning.

MEG HARROP: Coffee (oops).
Any Meg-related nicknames?
MEG HARROP: My soon-to-be brother-in-law now enjoys calling me The Meg after the film.

MEG BELL: Moogi!
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
MEG HAPGOOD: Essentially: “stop fucking around and get on with it”.
MEGAN BOWDLER: If you don’t try, then how will you know if it’ll be successful?
What superpower would make your work easier?

MEG BELL: Being able to clone myself!
MEGAN BOWDLER: If I could fly that would be handy.
MEGAN DAVIES: Maybe the ability turn off the urge to snack constantly?
Other than your computer or phone, what’s the most important thing you use for your work?
MEGAN BOWDLER: A paintbrush.
MEGAN DAVIES: Probably my knife!
If you could use a time machine to help you research or plan your work, where would you go?
MEG HARROP: Back to the beginnings of humans making art.
MEGAN DAVIES: I would probably go back and try and work for Elizabeth David, the British Culinary Queen of the 20th century.
And finally, there’s a zombie apocalypse brewing (eek, I know). Which three people (living, dead or, I guess, undead) would you want on your team?

MEG HARROP: My husband, my dog Jolene, and Hermione Granger
MEG BELL: Ellen Ripley from Alien, Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead, and Peter Kaye
